Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith’s re-release in theaters was a massive success, earning $25.2 million in 2,775 theatres in North America alone.

That was enough to debut in second spot in this week’s domestic box office chart, behind only Sinners’ impressive $45 million second week haul.

Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith’s box office last week was enough to make it one of the top-grossing re-release weekends in history, behind Star Wars – A New Hope’s $36 million from the 1997 Special edition release, and The Lion King’s $30 million from its 2011 3D release.

Adding in $17 million taken internationally, Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith’s re-release brought in a huge $42.2 million at the global box office, clearly demonstrating the demand for Star Wars movie re-releases.

Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith is the final chapter in George Lucas’ epic saga, and reveals how Anakin Skywalker became Darth Vader. It originally earned $850 million at the global box office.

The re-release beat The Accountant 2’s domestic box office debut of $24,492,743 and Until Dawn’s $8.015 million. Ryan Coogler’s vampire flick Sinners, meanwhile, is now up to $161.626 million at the global box office after two weekends. A Minecraft Movie continues its march towards $1 billion; it’s now on $816.567 million.
